The imagery (including the actual image) is powerful, with the predator's black and truth's white in particular apposition. At first I thought his hunger for purity made him the pure one and truth somehow dirty, but of course one devours that for which one hungers.

Though I can't help remarking that the pictured beast is now more truth than hunger, his white bones glinting through the glass. His rider seems just as dark -- and perforce as hungry -- as in the text, however.

And congratulations on seeing thirty years on the hunt.

Thanks, DW! Yes, thirty years of hunting for that paycheck.

If I'm quite honest, and who wouldn't be, the actual image does not totally match the verbal imagery it set in motion in my mind, as the prehistoric beast in the pic (or what's left of it) is quite pale and not "midnight-colored". But on the other hand it certainly ain't no white swan. But if that incongruence keeps you and everybody else guessing as to who or what might symbolize truth, or purity, or hunter, or hunted – well, that's fine by this poet!

On a totally unrelated note: Guess who listened to Sorrow for the first time today? Impressive / depressive stuff. Reminds me of Perfect Darkness by Fink. Six hours of this? I can only imagine what it does to the mind.
